Meridian Jailbreak

On my old iPhone 7, I have still installed iOS 10 that works really great. Yalu102 is a great jailbreak, but it supports only iOS 10 – iOS 10.2. However, Meridian Jailbreak provided support for iOS 10 – iOS 10.3.3 and I decided to test it. What I can tell after weeks of testing, it's a great solution to jailbreak iOS 10.3.3.

Meridian was initially released as a jailbreak that can be executed from a web browser. However, recently LukeZGD updated Meridian by replacing Substitute with Cydia Substrate for better tweak injection and compatibility and added Zebra as the default package manager. MeridianFix is released as an IPA.

What is Meridian Jailbreak?

Meridian is a jailbreak tool with support for all 64-bit devices, running any iOS version between 10.0 and 10.3.3. Originally released by PsychoTea, Siguza, and others the latest version of this amazing iOS 10 jailbreak was published in 2018. LukeZGD updated Meridian Jailbreak in 2024 for better tweak compatibility on iOS 10.

Because of the new update, I decided to test the jailbreak again in 2024 and this is what I lerned. Meridian Jailbreak is a great jailbreak tool for iOS 10 – iOS 10.3.3, and with the latest unofficial update by LukeZGD, it becomes even better. MeridianFix v0.9-008 is the most recent version of the jailbreak.

The entire reason I wrote MeridianJB was because I had acidentally updated my iPhone 7 from 10.0.1 to 10.3.1, after thinking Yalu was incompatible, before the release of xerub's extra_recipe. The best mistake I've ever made.

One of the greatest advantages of the tool is the possibility to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad directly from the Safari browser. The original version supports iOS 10 – iOS 10.3.3, but the updated MeridianFix version is compatible with iOS 10.3 and above. In this case, use MeridianFix IPA instead to jailbreak iOS 10 – iOS 10.2.1.

Meridian was released in 2018 and was maintained for a couple of months. During the development, a lot of bug fixes have been addressed. The developer also added useful features such as an option to reinstall Cydia, install dpkg, and re-extract the bootstrap. The latest v0.9-007 Pre-Release was published in September 2018.

I recommend using the Meridian v0.9-007 release if you would like to use Substitute as the tweak injection library. This version fixes random freezes and should be much more stable. It also improves the source code, fixes jailbreakd failing to launch on older 10.x kernels, and tidies up the installation/running process.

Meridian Jailbreak was released as an open-source project under the MIT license. The source code of the exploit is available on PsychoTea's GitHub Repository. This way LukeZGD managed to update the Meridian jailbreak with his own improvements and bug fixes. If you need a more stable jailbreak environment use MeridianFix v0.9-007.

Please note that the web app of MeridianFix might not work for iOS versions below 10.3.x. It is recommended to use the IPA app instead for iOS 10.0 – iOS 10.2.1

Meridian vs MeridianFix

Meridian by PsychoTea features tweak injection provided by Substitute and Cydia as the default package manager. If it works great for you then there is no need for an updated. However, if you like to have better tweak compatibility on your older iDevice MeridianFix provides Substrate as the tweak injection library.

The idea behind Cydia Substrate is to provide Meridian Jailbreak with better support for jailbreak tweaks. MeridianFix also offers other improvements over the original version released in 2028. LukeZGD's version is a hacky modification to the Meridian app that should not have bootstrap issues.

MeridianFix v0.9-008 is a build of Meridian's substrate branch with an updated bootstrap. It uses Cydia Substrate instead of Substitute for tweak injection and compatibility. Installs Zebra v1.1.36 instead of Cydia on initial installation.

If your device is already jailbroken with Meridian, SSH to your device, delete the folder /meridian at root, reboot, and re-jailbreak with MeridianFix. The iOS 10 jailbreak can be used from a browser, but it's recommended to sideload the IPA instead. The web version is not as good as the standalone application.
