MessagesXI
Apple limits users' control over the Messages app, providing only basic functionalities. However, the MessagesXI tweak steps in to enhance the user experience by introducing several useful features. These include the ability to manually mark messages as read or unread, hiding the typing indicator for enhanced privacy, and customizing the color of unread message indicators, thereby offering users personalization within the app.
MessagesXI Tweak Repository
MessagesXI tweak was released as a DEB package, which can be purchased from the Havoc Store at $1.49. To access the tweak and add cool stuff to Messages for iOS, you can add the official MessagesXI Repo to your package manager and install the tweak for iOS 14 – iOS 16.7.6.
What is MessagesXI?
MessagesXI is a jailbreak tweak designed specifically for iOS 14 through iOS 16, offering users a host of additional features within the Messages app. In its latest update, MessagesXI now extends support to rootless jailbreaks like Dopamine and Palera1n. Notably, all customizable settings are conveniently accessible within the app interface, eliminating the need to navigate through device settings, and thereby streamlining the user experience.
Upon installation, the MessagesXI tweak seamlessly integrates with Apple's native Messages app and iMessage service, ensuring a cohesive and familiar user experience akin to Apple's own design principles. Users can conveniently access MessagesXI by tapping the ellipsis button located adjacent to the message composition button within the conversation list, as demonstrated in the accompanying screenshot example.
In the configuration pane, users have the ability to toggle MessagesXI on or off at their discretion, as well as manually mark conversations as read or unread. Additionally, users can toggle the option to snap back to the conversation list, hide the typing indicator, automatically read group chats, and read conversations upon sending a message.
Moreover, users can customize the color of manual unread message indicators and normal unread message indicators. The configuration pane also offers options to reset the colors of manual and normal unread message indicators, as well as reset all unread chats and all settings. Finally, users can apply any changes they have made within the preference pane to ensure their preferences are properly implemented.
The most recent update of the tweak introduces significant enhancements and new features. Firstly, users now have the option to disable the unread button within conversations, providing greater control over their messaging experience. Secondly, the functionality of the read/unread button within conversations has been notably improved, allowing it to switch in real-time based on the read status of messages.
Moreover, a new capability has been added, enabling users to read a conversation directly when they begin typing or composing a reply, streamlining the messaging process. In addition to these feature enhancements, the location of certain settings has been adjusted for better accessibility, ensuring a more intuitive user experience.
Furthermore, reading selected conversations now behaves as expected, enhancing overall usability. For MessagesXI tweak users running jailbreaks on iOS 16 and above, unreading selected conversations will now display the manual unread indicator instead of the default, with plans to extend this functionality to iOS 14 and iOS 15 in the near future.
Additionally, preferences have been reworked to address potential sandbox issues by eliminating the use of NSUserDefaults, ensuring a smoother and more reliable performance.
Color preferences have also been standardized across all supported iOS versions, providing consistency in appearance and customization options. Lastly, package dependencies have been removed, simplifying the installation process and improving compatibility.
