The evolution of WinRa1n from version 1.0 to 2.0

WinRa1n 1.0 was a major success in 2023, providing a reliable way to jailbreak checkm8 iOS devices from a Windows PC. This accomplishment was made possible because WinRa1n was designed with usability in mind, and it was also the first utility that did not need users to manually adjust system drivers. Users adored this program, which soon gained thousands of downloads and became one of the most popular jailbreak tools.

The first release of this jailbreak solution based on checkra1n and palera1n was not optimal and included various faults, however they have been fixed in version 2.0. iKey Tools tried its utmost to ensure that the program was compatible with as many PC systems as possible. The application's codebase was rebuilt. Jailbreaks have been updated to the latest versions.

Version 2.0 additionally addressed the promised root-level support. Nevertheless, this scenario necessitates 16 GB of storage. More utilities have been added to the menu (click the icon), including one-click SSH tunnel creation, one-click erasure, and more. The developer introduced the "Fuzzing" Stage to increase the success rate of jailbreaks on any PC.

WinRa1n 2.0 continues to support Intel and AMD CPUs, as well as USB 2.0 to USB 3.2. Checkra1n was upgraded to version 1.1337.2, and Palera1n Beta 4 to Beta 7. Several driver problems have been resolved, including a loading issue in v1.1 and USBDK not working properly.

This version has been completely adjusted to the UsbDk driver. To ensure consistent performance at each level, it is strongly advised to install and use UsbDK as the backend. Because of the introduction of the newer PongOS, iOS 12 – iOS 14 may display a "device entering safe mode" prompt, however this has no effect on functioning.

Three months later, on December 12, 2023, the last update to WinRa1n 2.1 became available to the public. This version does not provide any new groundbreaking features. Instead, it enhanced user experience by allowing all iDevices to start in DFU mode, creating customizable Ramdisks, and improving AMD CPU support. This version drops support for A6 devices.

Most likely, a new version of WinRa1n Jailbreak will not be released very soon. There are no checkm8 iPhones that work with iOS 17. So, the most you can hope for is to jailbreak iOS 16. However, some older iPads remain compatible with checkm8 and can run iPadOS 17.
